I was wondering how much horsepower can be gotten out of a 70 gas without going the stroker route. Are there any tips or tricks, or reasonable engine modifications to get it around 55 - 60 horse? Any suggestions would be helpful

I talked to Roberts carb shop today (712) 262-5311. He thinks high compression pistons, dry air filter element and some port work will yield hp in the 65 range. He also said regrinding your cam to a little wilder profile gets you a 2-8 hp increase.

Funny you should ask Dave, I am in the exact same boat you are in. People I have talked to think 60 hp should be within reach. Number one thing to be addressed is compression, must be in 150psi cranking compresssion range. M&W, LP, High altitude pistons? Dont go nuts with a huge over-bore if you dont have to because the 1/8" over will gain about 2 hp. Next on the list is air in and out. LP manifolding keeps things cool or just render your hot manifold inoperable. Do a little port clean up and matching and we shold be knocking on the high 50's easily.
