Watched a pair of expertly weight balanced and hitched 44 Massey row crops and a Ford 801 clean up in the 4500lb class last weekend.Pulling ground was a clay power track. Their ground speed was fast fast enough to almost make the flag man break stride into a trot to keep up. Is there something reasonably simple and modestly priced they used to increase power on those models? The Ford had lots of power in 2nd gear and sounded "fast". The 44's were in 1st gear but reving pretty good too. None of the tractor ever lugged down even when at max load.

My Dad had a 44 and it wasn't that good. A person who we pull against sometimes, has a 44. Its pretty good. He did everything my Dad and a little more, bored and stroked real good with domed pistons. The 44 always is in the top 3.

The Father-inlaw seemed to recall some sort of a TSC or M&W oversize sleeve/piston kit with higher compression for the 44's. Wondered if it really existed. The Ford four cylinder would be a pretty simple build-up with auto parts or just doubling speed over the rated rpm. Made 4th place but the video shows too much rear tire pressure and all kinds of weight still on the front wheels. Next year I'll beat them.

G Taylor -

There is (was) a 4.0625in high dome piston/sleeve kit available (from M+W)for the H260 engines. I sold a set of those pistons only (used) about 6 years ago for $250.00!

That is however, not the "big secret" to a 44 engine...

Just to wet your appetite...70+HP @ stock RPM is easily possible with only 277 cubes! I have "helped" three different gentlemen build these engines. "Names are withheld to protect the innocent..."
