My two cents I pull a A JD from 5500 up to 12000 and most of the time i place yes it is a small tractor but when you can beat a 4020 in a pull you get a lot of looks and when you get first place over those red things that is really a good feeling

I would consider buying a D21 Allis or either a 1955 Oliver. These tractors will weigh over but you can strip them down fairly easy. These tractors both have advantages. The Allis has big cubes and the Oliver has the three speed powershift.

Don't forget about CASE tractor's. The 6 cylinder models do well in the big classes like 9500. If your rules are 57 and older look for a 600 or 900. If 59 and older look for a 900B. If 69 and older 930 or 1030. Plenty around and easy to work on. My dad pulls a 900 and 930 and does well against all other brands with equal speed and drawbar height.

If you arn't talking antique the MF 1100 as suggestion below is right on the money, just like a 4020jD or 1206IH. The problem is some clubs seperate turbo's from non turbo tractors. If non turbo, then MF 1100 gas can be picked up fairly cheap when you can find them, not everyones pulling them, and the ones I've seen will realy get after it, when tinkered with. However if you are pulling antique, I'd check on a Miniapolis Moline G, JD 720 or 820. The 820 will cost more than the Moline G, but so won't building up a compairable International W-9, or Oliver 99. Good luck. Greg H.

This is a loaded question. Any tractor can be built into a strong puller. The question is how much are you willing to spend. If you want a good tractor, that will pull strong in stock form, go for a Ford turbo diesel. A "7000" can be wieghted up to pull in 9500 or can go as low as 6500. A "9000" can be stripped down to 9500 fairly easily. Both of these tractors rev very easily and make a ton of power thanks to the turbo... If you want a gas tractor find a Massey Ferguson 1100 Or a big Moline... Anyone can get power out of a gas tractor...
