I am looking to buy a M&W 1/2" stroked crankshaft for my Super M and need to find out where to get a new set of lifters. Any help would be appreciated.

While your doing all this have your machine shop bore your block to fit the M=W 179 kits if you can get them. Will give you 4 1/4 bore plus the 1/2 stroke=326 cid.Very nice powerful ,dependable combination. Also have your crank balanced after it is all done.

If you could find a badly worn crank plenty of machine shops could stroke it 1/2 inch. An original M&W is probably very scarce and very expensive. No big deal to have a set of tappets re-crowned either, but I'm sure some of these NOS parts people probably have some.

Can I still use the M&W "firecrater pistons" that I have? Also, the original rods with a 450LP head?

I thought that the Fire Crater pistons were made by IH not M&W.

No, you'd need pistons with a shorter compression distance with a 1/2 in stroke. In other words the wrist pin hole would have to be 1/4 closer to the top of the piston. M&W made a 4.25 piston for it's stroker crank and there are still a few around. I think Lemmons has some, and maybe Mike Bunck at Steelwheel Ranch. The stock rods should be fine although they might need a little clearancing. The 450 LP head has little or no room for a domed piston, and I think you'll find with this combination you won't need it. With flatops you'll be right at 9-10 to 1 compression, and over 200 psi of cranking compression. It should make a very sweet motor, and probably double a stock Super Ms horsepower. If you know a good machine shop you're half way there.

Good luck! farmallflogger
