Local association here in W. PA has a stipulation regarding HP and their dyno. The last I heard the dyno wasn't working but basically the weight classes jumped every 1000# 5500, 6500, etc.... In the 5500# class you were limited to 55 hp and only 10% over factory rated hp. Things may have changed but basically that is how I remember it.

Unless it is a certified dyno with a certified operator, they can stick their dyno up their a$$. I'd be happy to take the DQ because there is to much $$$ to be lost by some jerk trying to be funny.

What do you mean money lost? I have never seen a tractor break because of a dyno or the operator.

I have witnessed and have been a victim of some brainless POS deliberately trying to break something. While chugging away on the dyno, this jerk cranks the handle so quick that I can't even reach the clutch in time before it stops dead in a matter of seconds. Stopping a couple hundred pounds of rotating metal in seconds can't be good regardless of type engine.

Apparently you wouldn't mind one of your competitors doing that to one of your tractors?

2 groups in maine do. They are the Maine State tractor pullers. And the Maine Tractor pullers use it also. They also use it in New Brunswick for Maritime Tractor pullers. I like the method of keeping the playing field somewhat level. Rpm's allow for any horsepower you can make, I much prefer a dyno.

I had the opportunity to observe preliminary dyno checks at a pull at Crapaud PEI on August 1st.The drivers were finding out where to set their throttles in order to not show too much HP in the mandatory after-pull check. then they opened them right up to pull. And they had a dyno check!

Every pull I have been to have made sure the throttle is opened up all the way. I have never pulled in pei so I can't speak to that. I have not witnessed what you are describing nor have I witnessed what burns has suggested. I think if the person running the dyno did what Burns told about there should be action taken against that person. I have found most people want to be fair and to do the right thing.

The dyno should be used only for a stock class, if there are tractors in question. ex- tractors you have never seen before or tractors that seem too strong for stock, then use it, but have a dyno worth hooking to , no junk, I have seen wore out brushhogs that won't make your tractor hop like some I've seen at local clubs. Anything beyond stock division, there should be enough good sensible rules to limit tractors per division. Plus, what club is ever going to spend money on a dyno tune up? No clubs I have been to will ever do it, and hey like Burns said, it is a 65 cent ribbon, they can keep it.
