Wow! some heavy pulling going on in this sight. My wife and I each have a 435 John Deere with 2-53 (N) GM Detroit engines used in antique tractor pulling. Her tractor is going for a engine rebuild this winter. We pull in the 4000 lb class using a transfer sled. She stalls out in second gear. I generally do quite well in second stalled out once this year.We have to stay pretty much stock in our club. What can be done to increase power beyond a rebuild, every little bit helps. Engines can be turned up to maintain 700 rpm on the pto and they are. We are fairly new at this and have a lot to learn. What kind of HP do these engines put out. Thanks to anyone who can help

I seem to remember G Taylor over on the JD board building a 435 recently. You may want to give him a shout. Good luck, Fireman

Bill work on reducing intake and exhaust (ear plugs may be advisable :-) ) restrictions. Find a good Detroit mechanic that knows how to set up the rack. Move up an injector size or two. See if there was a four valve head available for the 2-53 unless yours already has one. See if a faster drive gear is available for the supercharger from Detroit. Send the supercharger out to have teflon strips installed on the lobes of the rotors. Add a petcock to the air box drain/bleed, only shut it of when pulling. I's there to drain off any moisture that condenses. Be ready to have to upgrade you drivetrain. Some of the JD folks should be able to tell you which rearend/transmission to use.

Good luck,
A.P.

I have been in contact with Glen T. in the pass.He suggested dry type air filter, I plan on doing that. Air and intake seem to be the answer. Can,t go to 4 valve head we have to stay pretty much John Deere stock in our club. Just looking for information on obtaining a little more power. The new rebuilt engine might do the trick. On the dyno at our JD dealer, if it is correct is 44 HP for my tractor and 40 HP for my wifes tractor. I think you already know she is not buying that 40 figure on her tractor. 47 to 50 HP would certainly do the trick for her. Going to bring her tractor to a small diesel shop in Valleyfield Quebec. Thanks for the information. We will be keeping an eye out for more hints.
