Does anyone have a supplier or machine shop that will make steel flywheels? In Wisconsin here we've had a few flywheel explosions this summer. Not a good situation. Either we turn the RPM's down or go with steel and a scatter blanket. Any thoughts?

I am curious. What brand tractors and what kind of RPM?? This and fan blades have worried me for a long time. Our tractor fans are made to work at governor speeds. So when you double rpm you are really at risk.If you want to turn them up lets keep them safe. Its a good sport don't ruin it or someones family.Earl

If you are going to specify SFI flywheels (certified) only a handfull of machine shops, who are qualified, will be able to make the flywheel and put the sticker on them. A list of these shops is probably available from the NTPA office. If you simply specify a steel flywheel, you might want to be careful liability wise. An inspection would help, but I am sure there are those that would try to go the cheapest route and possibly still have failures due to bad material or poor design. I can machine flywheels for you and help with clutch updates etc.. I am not certified (SFI), but would be willing to look into it if there was enough interest. What type of tractors? Thanks and Good Luck

So get out the checkbook and and get a steel flywheel made and while you're at it squeeze a double disc in. If you're going to build something with enough rpm to fling a flywheel apart you better be ready to spend some cash. It is one thing to make it run that fast but you gotta be able to hold it together.Any basic machine shop should spin out a flywheel for you if you have the specs.
