Looking into building an A, 1946 for pulling. What can you do with an A regarding stroke and bore? Anyone have parts they want to part with? THanx.

What kind of price tag are we talking about for this kind of setup? I have the powerblock with 6.125 bore and aluminum high compression pistons, with some head and porting work in a 47 JD-A that dyno's at 55hp, it does quite well in 4500-6000# classes but would like to power it up so I can run in the faster classes. I have been thinking about a stroker crank. Who would you recommend for this kind of work, and what is the price tag? Thanks.

I've had good luck with Merfeld in Peosta, Iowa
For a big crank - $1000.00 to $1400.00

How much will the rods cost to go along with the stroker crank? In other words what will the package deal cost, crank, rods and pistons. I have half the package with the powerblock, was just wondering what it will cost to build the JD-A the rest of the way. Thank in advance!

Custom rods will run right around $225.00 to $250.00 each. Or you can weld up some rods using the top part of your A rod and the back half of a 404 or 466 cu. JD rod. You can use 329 cu. rods too. One has a 3 inch jor. the 329 is 2.750 jor.
You have to notch your cam, and knock the back out of the crank case for the rods to clear.

What classes do you want to pull in?
The biggest A that I've seen was 6.750 X 10.150
4500 to 6500 lbs. in div. 3 and 4 will work good for your A. You can bore out the block you got for 5.750 or 5.875/ or sleeve to 6.250/ or find a power block, bore to 6.250 or sleeve to 6.500. A 9.250 to 9.500 crank works good, but takes alot of work to get in. 8.250 to 8.500 isn't to bad. 90 to 95 hp. is very possible with a good A. Let me know if I can help. I don't know everthing, but I can sound like I do.
Good Luck!
