I think the Cat pistons are out of a D-7 5.750
Go to an Cat bone yard. Or you can go to a Cat dealer. They list the sizes as well. Remember- your going to have a large wrist pin with Cat pistons. You can make the pin smaller to fit your rods, or weld the Cat rods to your rod. The thing on the replacement blocks is true for all years.

Yes - I have run a couple A's with 70 pistons. One had .045 70 pistons. Do check out the block, not all of the blocks are true. I bored one out for .125 over and hit a sand hole. 5 3/4 Is something to think about. JD R pistons, or a small CAT piston. Lyn is right - about a 7.500 crank before you get into the crank case. Look for a block with a strap on the bottom of the block or two circles the size of a quarter on top of the block. These blocks were replacements threw John Deere, the sleeves are thicker and more even all the way threw the block.
Good Luck!

When you say small cat piston, do you have a part# and where to best get them. I'm looking for the right piston that size.

Do you have a cast# for these blocks? And what years they were available.

Thanks

The guy posted down the list that an A block would accept a 70 gas piston...I mean, what I ment to say is yes it will work. I wonder how much stroke an A will live with without cutting up the tractor?

Probably not, if you want it to not over-heat..! I think you will have to sleeve it, or get a power block...they have a 6" bore...but they also have sleeves...

Does anyone know how much you can stroke a power block "A" without having to modify the crank case?
