MY BROTHER RUNS THIS 4.310 SET UP FROM DENNY IN A FARMALL M . WITH THE 450 GAS HEAD AND MAKES GOOD POWER . HASN'T BEEN ON DYNO YET BUT HE OUT PULLS IN 2 ND AND 3RD GEAR SOME THAT CLAIM TO HAVE 70 PLUS H.P. HE PULLS 4700 IN 3 RD 5200 IN 2ND AND 3 RD AND 5700 IN 2 ND. IT IS OBVIOUSLY STOUTER THAN THE M&W 4 1/4 SET UPS THAT ARE PULLING WITH US . I KNOW HE DID SOME FLOW WORK AND VALVE WORK IN THE 450 GAS HEAD . GOOD LUCK

acordining to the div 1 rules i've been reading you have to have a stock bore and block stock intake and carb if you mess around your just asking for trouble from other pullers in that division rules are in place for a reason so everyone has a fair chance! Not For Cheaters

You still need to bore the block to take 4.25 pistons. Add that to the cost of the pistons. You might just look for a Super M - the 264 block would be legal, and I'd bet that whole tractor wouldn't cost what you are looking at here with the 4.25 pistons.

IMHO, this is lots of money for the little extra horsepower. And horsepower is only a small portion of a successful pull.

I know a few of guys pulling with Denny's 4.31 in M's. Two are running bare block without sleeves. One has sleeves because when the block was bored they hit water at the bottom. I've been told that with the 248 block there's a 50/50 chance of finding water (especially at the bottom of the bore) when it is bored over 4.25. As for performance, I really think the 4.31's are way over priced for the extra hp they develope. They seem to make high rpm hp (2000), but low end torque (1500 and down) doesn't appear to be there. You can probably build a better puller, for less, with Firecrater or M&W pistons and a good head with mild flow work. Firecraters are still around as NOS. Someone like Weber's in Newton Il. should know where to find them. There's an ad in The Hook for M&W's. 450 LP head is highest compression but are very $$$, plus may contact high piston domes. 400-450 gas head is great, same flow as LP with a little less comp. 8060 casting is next best. This is my opinion for hp without stroking. Good Luck.

Gawd.. he wants over $900 for that kit! And I doubt you'll get an extra 20 hp from it. The stroker kit that he offers uses the same pistons and might give you a little bit more, but the last time I looked, that was listing for $2300. Seriously, you don't think someone will notice if you are pulling in third gear with an M? And the standard replacement M pistons will allow you to pull in second anyway.

BTW, if you are talking M, and not Super M, you'll need to bore the block. I just keep seeing the back pocket getting lighter and lighter.

thank's for the reply's. i'll ask the question again. does anyone have advice on what 4.25 pistons to use running in the block !! with stock rods !!! too the people that read the rule books !!! i'm sure your one of the biggest cheaters of all !!! book says stock in appearance!!! in my club several individuals have told me their running in the block !!! first gear pull (3)mph. and i have taken much advise from this board !!! i now have a totally restored
super (m) that puts out 64hp at 535 at the pto shaft!!! i just bought a 46m at a junk yard for $65.00. great winter project!@!! just looking for the most economical way to get to 70hp. never bought anything from dennys yet !! just can't figure out the big rubb!!! i've talked to marfield
and lemmons, great people, but they like to build assemblies! nothing better after a hard week than to work on tractors!! so my question still is.
i'm asking for a better way !!! thank's again!!

STAY AWAY FROM DENNY CAUSE YA,LL GET BURNT. TRY CALLING ROSS PISTONS GIVE THEM YOUR SPECS. INCREASE YOUR COMPRESSON 10.5-11.5 AND GET A GOOD CAM AND YOU SHOULD GET WHAT YOU WANT.

The biggest pistons you can run in an M without boring the block are 4.00 pistons. Next question: Does your M have a distillate head? If it does, you'll get less benefit from those pistons. The best you can reasonably hope to do is ensure that you have a gasoline head and stepped-head pistons. Switching from a distillate head and moving to 4 inch stepped pistons might give you an extra 10 hp. Doing more than this will get expensive - quickly. And it becomes obvious that you aren't running stock.

The C248 M engine just isn't an easy engine to hop up. A C264 from a Super M gives you a little more to work with. And don't consider swapping a Super M engine into your M - if you live in an area where they enforce the rules. I can spot a 264 or 281 engine with just a glance.

Denny's is a waste of money. We have told you this and you're still thinking about buying his junk? Why do you ask for advice and then not take any of it? Maybe you should go some where else and ask questions.

Hmmm.... division 1. I don't think a Farmall ever came from the factory with 4.31 pistons.

This is just another guy who can't do the balance & traction thing so he's going to try & buy a win! Div. 1 is for STOCK TRACTORS-SHOW TRACTORS only. Even if you do get a win you won't get any respect with this set-up in div. 1
