Curious if anyone has done any experimenting on horsepower numbers from the use of a flowed Heisler head versus a Jerry's head for a late model JD A. Are contemplating whether the gain would be worth the additional expense. Currently utilizing the flowed Heisler on a 475 cubic inch motor (5.795 X 9). All information would be appreciated.

Stick with the Heisler. Jerry's head flows too good for a medium sized "A". It has a 2.375" runner, so it does good at upper RPM's (12-1300). You'll lose all the bottom end torque because of the low velocity of the intake air. I just put in a smaller duration cam but havn't dynoed yet to see if it improved low end torque. Mike

Jerrys head is nice - but like was posted, you need some really big cu. Not saying you have a small A. To many dead spots in the Jerry's head. The Heisler head, was a after market head by Harry Heisler from Hudson, Iowa. Made in the 60's. The man made some neat stuff. Died at a early age of a heart attack. He's wife took over, and she died shortly after he did of a heart attack. I guess you need good health to run one.
The heads were painted silver in color. He made one for a unstyled A - looks like Dolly Parton between the head and the block, bra shaped cones that go into the cyl. about 15/16 deep. And made two for a styled A. Kinda a flat head.

Nothing - different numbers. The manifolds are a little different. The early ones for a styled A look more rounded on the outside. Fatter looking.
