Dear Farmall M thru 450 Pullers,

I am going to give you some free engine building advise to you since I am getting to old to pull anymore. If you are trying to increase your horsepower to a respectable Div. II plus range here is my 2 cents. First you pull your stock pistons out and throw them to the dogs to play with. Next you go to your local John Deere dealer and get 4 new pistons for a 4020 LP (must be LP cause the gas ones aren't flat top) tractor. These pistons should hit you for around $125. Then you contact a machine shape that can stroke cranks (personally I used the gentalman in the HOOK that advertises and they hit me for $500)to 6.125 inches (6 1/8"). Also you will need to have your block either bored or honed to 4.21" (the diameter of the 4020 LP pistons) Sorry I forgot to mention that the beauty of the 4020 LP piston is it has the same diameter pin as the M rod. This means you don't have to do any cutting and welding of your rods. Another added bonus is that 6.125" rods don't require any gringing in the block to allow for the added throw. Well I just wanted to share this info with you and use it as you will. I am sure there will be many of you trying to contest this as it seems there always is. Side not this set up will put you at around 342 cubic inch. If this number is wrong sorry I just did the math in my head real quick but I am sure you "engine builders" will correct it instead of focusing on the real issue at hand.

The compression Height is 2.625. This means you take 3.124 minus 2.625 equals .499. Then you multiply that by 2 to get .998 add that to 5.25 (Stock Stroke) and yes it equals 6.248. Yes I know this is more then what I said (6.125) because you have to allow some combution room for the flat top pistons and may need to mill a little off your head. To get your desired compression (personally I ran 10.5 to 1) I hope this helps.
