I agree with the other post, an "A" dosn't give you mush to work with, however slight gains can be acheived by a good tune up. By this I mean good accurate carb. settings, fresh plugs, plug wires, point gap setting, correct timming. All of these things can give a noticeable boost in performance. Remember an engine is just like a pump, it sucks gas and air in, combusts it, and blows it out, anything you can do to improve this process is a gain in power. A lot of gain can be had by haveing a reputable machine shop rebuilding the head. Accurately ground valves, valve springs with the correct tension, new valve guides, and new valve seals, should add a few more ponies to the ol' "A".....

These little A's don't have much horsepower. They were intended for one row farming and cultivating. Even resleaving it with the increased bore isn't going to do much for a gain in hp. If you want more power trade it in on something bigger. I don't even know why I.H. would put a pto on these little tractors a 4 ft. mower is almost too much for it. Should pull a belly mower fine as long as the grass don't get too tall. Great little garden tractors though. What gear are you running in? Johnny

I heard that a 300 or 504 camshaft would interchange in the A-farmall but don't know what i would gain if anything.I thank you for any information you may have to offer.
