Sounds to me like it is some form of traction booster system like they put on 560's.

Joe -

The "posi-traction" modification to these antique tractors is not a differential swap out. What "they" are selling is a kit that when installed will place a pre-determined level of binding in your existing differential. This moderate binding will force a small amount of bias to the "non-spinning" wheel. Often this is enough to keep the tractor moving if one wheel hits a loose spot. The level of bias (binding in the differential) can be changed depending on your personal preference. If the differential is too tight it can "lock" or make some pretty disturbing noises when turning.

The "kit" to modify your differential is most likely some type of washer, bronze flat bearing, and/or shim stock, depending on the model of tractor in which it will be installed. On some models of tractor this phenomenon can also be accomplished by removing shims from the bearing caps on the bull pinions, thus putting a little squeeze into the differential side gears. Be careful if trying this for the first time, as it is very easy to remove too many shims and "lock" the rearend!

Will it work on a 560?
