It is, along with the 44 and 44special, very competitive in its stock form in Div. 2 along with some Div.3. Just a matter of doing your homework on setting the tractor up. A word of advice-stay away from Firestone fields and road--I cannt get mine to hook up with any type of track with 13.6 x 38.

We run a 44 in 4500 and 5500 div 2. It hits the money about half the time with 15.5s, 23* bars. Usually have 20-30 tractors in the class. It has a small overbore kit, and runs about 30 horse less than several of the tractors that run div 2 around here. It's not all about horsepower. I only run in low, not enough stuff to run at reduced throttle in 2nd and stay under 3mph.

I'm going to lighten it up a little to balance it better in 4500.

Hopefully Masseypuller will respond to you. If he's who I think, he's building a 444. And has one hot 44 that really runs.

Slo -

Thanks for the kind words!

The Triple is nearly ready to roll out of the shop doors. We will hopefully be cuttin' her teeth at Sigourney, Columbus, and probably Murray, KY.

If anyone has any questions on the H260 engine and related mods to that engine, drop me an email.

As far as pulling the tractor, I have read many good suggestions made by others in this thread. I would tend to follow their advice. The name of the game to figuring out a new tractor is to pay attention to details! Record tire pressures, weight placements, track conditions, and the results. Review and record this information every time you weight the tractor for a class. This will help you develop a "feel" for how your tractor reacts to different changes to the setup. Also be sure to put your drawbar as close to the limits of the rules as possible, as those limits are there for a reason!

The only thing that I have seen in this thread that I don't necessarily agree with is the comment about Firestone Field and Road tires. These are the preferred tires of most pullers and if you watch what the winners are running in your area, you will most likely find that they are using Firestones. If you are having problems getting them to hook, then some parameter of their installation needs changed:

1. Air pressure
2. Rim width
3. Lug height
4. Lug profile (cut)

In my experience, there is an exception to the Firestone tires being the superior tire: Uncut tire classes. The F and R tires do not perform well in uncut tire classes. For this type of class, it has been my experience that the 45 degree treads are better (for uncut tire classes only!).

Hope this helps!

hay ken! will i don't pull a 444 but i do pull a 44special in 5000 pure stock 5500 antigue and 6000 pure stock. the 444 is to new for our classes age cut is 1955 but what i can tell you is DON'T spend tons of money on horse power get your tractor set up for pulling get it as light as you can then work on balance 10 lbs. in the right place can make a winner or losser. get your draw bar set at the max in out up down and the thing i realey work on are the tires .all tires are not equal also air pressure is a big thing and last read the track other then that i think a 444 will pull great with a little set up hay you got 10 speeds to my 5 GO MH god i wish it was spring!

I know a guy by the name of Kenny Thomas from Holts Summit Missouri that pulls one once in awhile and it's competitive in the farm/stock/division II classes.

Thank's for the replys! I've got a 44 that I just got together and have pulled twice and shows a lot of potential. Just picked up a 444 today that needs a lot of work just wondering if it would be as good as the 44. don't see any 444s around here(NH). I've got firestones on my 44 and they worked good last weekend and other guys like them too
