Dose anybody else not like horns at tractor pulls?
I think speed limits are for cars not tractors!!!

AMEN!!
Horns suck big time.
I understand why people go with the horn, and that worked fine when it first came about. But, the problem I see is the real big horsepower tractors run in 3rd not 2nd, get anuff wheel speed, then about 3/4 down the track, open it up. If you learn to play the horn, you can really kick but on the 1st-low gear pullers. Kinda defeats the purpose.
My 3 cents.

Went to a pull in Northeast Iowa a few years back that had a lawnmower pace tractor with hydrostat with a 15 or 20 foot chain draging behind it. He lined up with you and took off at the drop of the green flag. You had to stay in that 15 or 20 foot area of chain as you were going up the track or your pull was marked from where you fell out of that distance. If you got ahead of him, you were DQ'ed. Kind of different, but fun.====deadeye

here in the mid Va. We hate both kinds of horns, the ones on the sleds, and the horn family that is trying to but in and run tractor pulling

I like the rule if you fall under 5 mph you are disqualified, nobody has this rule but I still like it. Lets face it, the mph rule was made for two tractors, John Deere and all the crap guys pull out of the briar patches, pull them and then get mad because they can't win.

Personally I think a speed limit is the way to go for stock classes. There's way to much difference in the low gear speed of the different makes of tractors. Somebody's always gonna try to pull it in second and if you accuse somebody you need to be able to prove it. Others are having faster gears made or tinkering around with the gearshift to make it be in second with the stick in low. Pretty hard to police. With the horn if you blow it you're too fast. Too many times and you're out. It's simple and fair for everbody.

IF I COULD AFFORD A TRACTOR THAT WOULD BLOW THE HORN IN 10 2 I COULD AFFORD TO BUY A HORN & PUT IT ON MY TRACTOR & BLOW BACK

My opinion is to have a "rabbit". It's like a lawnmower frame with an electric motor and a flag hanging out front. It runs on a round pipe with a wheel. They have the wheel 20 ft. behind the flag. If you drop farther then 20 ft. behind the flag, there d-qed. I feel that this is a fair way, I like it when you can tell how fast your going!!

I don't mind it either way! I go to pulls during the year that have horns, or dyno's and some with run what you brung. It doesn't bother me one way or another as long we are all clear on what the rules are from the start. Just my 2 pennies.

well, here in east Tennessee the local club also has a speed limit.I have green and yellow paint so you know I dont break any speed limits(unless of course i spend some big bucks.)It does keep things even when the hot tractors sneak over and pull in stock classes.I get a little miffed when stroker tractors pull in stock, modified and open gear classes.I say keep the horn in the stock classes and the rest is fine with me.I admit it is funny that most clubs with horns have a club president with deeres.(joking)as long as everyone knows the rules..... ..play the game

Horns?? We don't have horns or speed limits in the classes we pull here in Ohio. What we do have is a limit on horsepower, maintained for each class by a (gasp) dynomometer! You can run as many cubic inches as you can stuff in your stock crankcase and you are allowed 10% over manufacturer high idle, but the dyno had better not rate the pto horsepower higher than allowed for the class pulled. This really helps even out the competition, as it forces all to balance their tractor properly and learn how to DRIVE the thing!! The object is to pull farther, not faster.

IF you can't take the heet get out the SUN.
IF you can't run with the big dogs stay on the pourch.
SPEED limits are for the POWDER PUFF classes or in this format,NATPA. I was going to say for you to pull DIV 5,but they have speed limits too!
SO,I guess your F#####!

I don't know anyone that LIKES the horn/speed limits, but this is a very important factor that keeps our sport from being 1970's Pro/Super Stock all over again. The amount of hp/torque that can be applied to the dirt is reduced as ground/wheel speed/tire size decreases. Plus, think about this: in 1970 how many 400+ cid Allis, 500+ M's, Olivers, 600+ MM U's, and 800+ JD's were pulling? If our speed, tires, rpm, and fuel were not limited we would be in an ever increasing cost structure that dwarfs the current rate of spending. Just my 2 cents. What do ya'll think?

I agree 100%. Lets get a large number of pullers by keeping the cost to compete down. Stay in the class you belong and there won't be a problem
