Would like to make a puller but don't know how much a 720 gas can be stroked.I'm sure you cant go as much as a G but will the extra 150 rpm's make up for less cubes.Any help would be appreciated.

I agree with Big Iron. The 720 is already a puller if you dont mind waiting around to the end to pull, then pull the 720. You should be able to get it to 7500lbs and you can pull all the way to 11,000, if you have enough weights, and still not run out of power. If rules allow you to run 18.4-38 do it. Dont run nothing smaller. In 7500 you could run 2nd gear and still do very well. I'm not putting the G down, but you would have to do ALOT of work to it to make it pull as good as the 720.

Well I wished I had a 720 to pull but the G I have is easier to pull around to pulls(bunches lighter). With some modifications you can pull from 5500 to 8500 with a G.And with a 720 you will find yourself waiting till last to pull(late). My G will pull(stock stroke)from 6300 to 7500 with the factory cast centers with power trol and pto.Good luck to whatever you decide,Jack(TN).

In my opinion if you want a ready-made puller you have one in the 720. Low first gear, upper 50hp stock, lets you run from 7,500#? up to 10,000# if you wish. If you have a stock G you have a low 40hp tractor that you can put in the 6,500# class, and be under powered with the high first gear. One thing I am finding is the head design on the later tractors 70, 720, 730 have a definite advantage in head design. A little grinding here and there a shave on the surface and you can make some good power, INEXPENSIVE POWER. Find some 18.4 - 38 Firestones mounted on 18" rims build some brackets for weights and go have some fun.

I have both a G and a 730D. The G has a low gear of about 2 1/2 mph while the 730 has a low gear of about 1 1/2 mph. Because of the gearing, you need a lot more horsepower in a G to pull the same load. I doubt, with the creaper gear, you would ever run out of horsepower before traction with the 720 with no modifications. At least I can't with my 730 in the 8-9,000# class.

I think the G would be better. Because it is lighter, as for the horse's I think since there are more people running G's it would be easer to make it have more. Hope this has been helpful.
