I have a question for anyone who pulls with a John Deere 820.How close to the 8,500 lb class will it be ? My 820 currently has single hyd. remotes,PTO,and my tires are dry 18.4x34.Let me know what you think. Thanks ,Bob.

My 820 is equipped the same as yours. My rear tires are 8 ply firestones (no tin wheels) and the fronts are 18" 6 plys. I can get into the 8500 lb class, a few pounds under, with no weights on except me at 200 lbs.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Eric

Thanks Eric, I have 6 ply on the rear ,and 5x16-4ply on the front .So even if the scales are a little messed up it sounds like I should no problem.Bob.

The 16" fronts are a good idea. When I saw pictures of my 820 pulling with 18" fronts, the tractor and chain all seemed to be lined up and the front end was stuck to the ground. This year I went to 16" up front in an attempt to get better weight transfer to the rears. If it ever stops raining out this way, I might get out to play.

One other thing, loose the weight behind the grill. It is about 120 lbs. I had it off when I weighed in for 8500.

Funny, I was just going to ask you about the front wieght ,I just pulled it off this morning.Changing to the 16" fronts also lost about 80lbs.total.I know what you mean about rain.Hopefully Sunday will be a good day for pullin here in Western New York.Bob.

Bob,

We got lucky with the weather and got our pull in Saturday night. We pull at the Washinton County fair grounds in South Western Pennsylvania. With all the rain, the parking lot was swampy in places but it made a great power track. Hope you got a chance to run.

Saw your interest in lightening up the front end. Here is another idea that I tried on my 820 for my latest pull. I ran a modified model L Gleaner combine axle up front. This allowed me to put an extra 250 lbs on the back. Helped the balance allot. Drop me a line if you want me to send pictures.

Eric

Bob are you a member of the WNYTCC? We have a 820 in our club that has an aluminum front end that pulls in our open classed. It can get as low as 6500#
