Before building the engine get a set of gripping Firestone 23 degree tires with short hard sharp lugs. Then pull for a while until you have weight, balance, tire pressure etc all figured out. You will annoy alot of people by putting down to the end of the track in 1st gear on an obviously stock tractor that takes a trophy now and again. Then spend the $10,000 to build a 420/430 engine.

start with a 420-430-440 block they have 1/4 inch more bore, and are 28 hp to start with, bore-stroke and go from there. luck.
