I'm putting a 6A ignition box on my G John Deere. It has an electronic ignition system from Denny's in it. I was wondering which wiring diagram to use. They have a diagram for a magnetic pickup in a distributor which has a hot and ground wire coming out or a petronix system which has a hot and ground wire. Which type of system do I have? Thanks for any help. How do you all like your 6A box?

Antique Puller I installed a MSD box on my "G" modified the little fuel tank to mount the box. I like the MSD box very dependable,be sure you make all connections up correctly and soilder when you can. I used the white wire set up fused the power supply lines. I used a Denny's set up and no problems whatsoever. I use neg. grd. also an alternater and a big batt,I think the msd box requires 10 volts to run it,I have a cut out on my alternater when pullin I would turn it off, tractor got to shutting down at the fifty foot mark (4 times) done a little research and a new battery works like a charm I do run now with alternator on. If you don't understand the white wire deal email me later Gman

Here is a diagram I used to wire my 6A box. I too have a pertronix ignition system (which is what you have). The MSD box is a good way to go. I am very pleased with it. Hope the link works. E-mail me if it doesn't and I will send it to you.

Thanks for the diagram. Has anybody noticed any power gains? I'm not expecting one to give it any more power. I've heard that it makes quicker starts and doesn't foul plugs as bad.

How much you gain will depend on what you have now. If you have a solid ignition system with good points, plugs, and wires - and solid connections - I doubt you will gain much of anything. I changed the plugs on my car last week for example. The old ones were completely worn out, but I got no improvement in gas mileage despite putting in new platinum plugs.

As to how it makes the plugs last longer - again this depends. One thing for sure, with a higher voltage, you will fire through a dirtier plug. With a higher voltage, you *can* widen the gap. This *might* give you more spark. If this helps you, I couldn't say.

I prefer electronic ignotion for one simple reason: Far less upkeep. It is almost an install it and forget it thing.

I know that MSD says don't use with solid core wires ,this is because of RFI, but if you don't have a radio, take those denny's wires off and put a good racing type solid wire on it and it will be even better.

Make certain you are running a negative ground electrical system with the MSD box. The aftermarket points elinator kits are available in both polarities.

I was curious how much Denny's charged for the Pertronix set-up. I'm pretty sure it's the same system we've been installing on New Generation tractors, and we get them from a local auto parts store. I was just wondering how much Denny was marking up a product that is readily available locally.

I believe it was $139.00 with a 55,000 volt coil (supposed to be) and 8mm wires. All I know is the wires are a good quality. I don't know about the coil.

I believe I saw the Pertronix magnetic pickup available (on their web site) for $76. The high output coil was listed at $29 or $39 - I don't remember which, though I think it was $29. If you bought both, they included a wire set at no extra charge.
