BECAREFUL!!
I installed a pertronix unit as a "trigger" for a MSD-6A and the pertronix fried. Luckily the dealer replaced it for free and blamed it on the MSD. I still don't understand why-I thought a primary switch was a primary switch-but evidentally not the case. He claimed it had to do with the fact it was a MODULE-not just a SWITCH ??? I would definatly talk to a factory tech before trying it - I just hav'nt had time to call them myself!
Not meant to scare anyone-I love both products, they just didn't work for me when combined!
Later, Pat

I've got both on my tractor and have had no problem.

MSD stands for multiple spark discharge. It excites the coil to fire the plug four times instead of just once within 20 crankshaft degrees at the low RPMs that most antique tractors run at.The MSD box still needs a trigger device of some kind-points,magnetic pickup,or the solid state electronic ignition. On the other hand, the electronic ignition does not need an MSD box.It takes the place of the points and is connected directly to the ignition coil.

So you can run both.... I currently have an MSD system and I could add "electronic" ignition as well. Would I gain anything by that or would I be wasting my money?

Yes you can run both. Pertronix says that you will see a horsepower increase. I did not. If there was a increase it was very minimal. BUT and that is a GOOD BUT, Our tractors start easier now than ever. I think it is as good or better investment for the money than MSD Box, dollar for dollar speaking. Both have their purpose..... ..... CBS Performance for your Pertronix - VERY VERY knowlodgeable, and had mine IN STOCK!!

The most common "electronic" upgrade is the Pertronix ignition system. It completely replaces the points and condenser system with a magnetic pickup system.
