If you have two(2) 1066 International tractors both are stock. You want to take both of them and pull in a farmstock class. Will the tractor with out a T/A do any good against the one with the T/A.

Thanks for your help

On my 1066 I pull it at 16-1700 rpms..TA in a 1066 is 18% reduction from high to low..older mechanical TA's as in a 460,560 ect..were up around 28% if I recall, so you can wait and lug the r's more. You want to keep the speed as fast as you can for the longest you can but if you wait to late it won't help that much..I have found that RPM range the best..

depends on how you use the TA. I don't pull IHs, so i have no idea when the best time to us it is. But I have seen many pulls where if the TA is pulled that the wrong time you are better off not having it. I have also seen a few times where somoene knows waht they are doing and pulls it at the exact right time, and does really well. It all depends on you experience, and sometimes luck of guessing the rght moment to use the TA. I would give them both a try and see how it goes.

I know what you are asking and your proubly right the best pulls are when you don't have to use the TA but, it is a great advantage to have the option to shift incase you pick the wrong gear or the track is better than you thought. It also is good in no speed limit classes you can start out is low and shift up to high. A good IH tractor with a guy who knows how to use a TA will alway's be a hard tracor to beat.
