i have a 1960 farmall 460 diesel with a wide front. i am looking for a new head gasket posobly a copper one if i can get one? I am sending the head in to get new valve seats in it. i have all new injectors and a new head on the injector pump. it runs great but the valves need work and i was wondering if theres anything i should do else. i am planning to pull with it in the spring. any tips of info will be much appreciated thanx.

i needed new injectors because the guy i bought it from mixed the new and old style injectors and it made the tractor run bad. so i got all new one's and had the pump boosted up so it pumps more fuel. now it runs better (ALOT!) but the valves still need work. Any way's i was wondering if there is any specific problems i shold know about in this tractor. ive herd about piston skirt problems? i am not planning on doing any lower engine work just topend. Also does any one here pull with a diesel 460 wide front end i just want to know how it might do. well thanx for any comments.

Make sure the tranny and rearend is up to snuff. They had alot of problems at the start of production (nothing more than a H setup with different gear ratios). Bearing failure in the bull gear drive and axle areas was common. Also, the TA has to be tight too. Good Luck.

Cooper head gaskets are great when their needed (HIGH compression ratios and/or BIG bores). If this isn't the case, stick with stock head gaskets, they are much less fussy. If you have to have copper, call Gasket Works USA at 626-358-1616, they will fix you up. Good Luck.

I agree. We hold over 14:1 compression on a 560 with a stock gasket. The head and block are both grooved so that a piece of stainless wire makes a mechanical seal.

put a 560 crank in it and you will have a strong pulling tractor
