Is there any clubs running set RPM's for the # of cylinders? Say 2750 for 6cyl, 2250 for 4cyl, and 1750 for 2cyl. I think it would level the playing field for everyone, not just those whoever benefitting from some board's screwy RPM sheet.

Most of the tractor pulls have a rule for that you can only go over 10 percent.

I believe rpm limits are a crock. I feel that there should be just a speed limit, some people want to bring there farm tractors, and others cant dyno theres, and an rpm limit isn't fair because some tractors came with more then others. for example, an M farmall can run more then a U moline, and there both 4 cyl, and both are of the same size. Ollies can run more then massey 6's too.

Not to start an argument, but, Truthfully, do you really think that would solve the problem? I run pulls of all sorts of RPM sheets. 10% over; 300 over; 4000 max (MY JD WON'T TOUCH 4000).

And with that being said, does one tractor having 3000 RPM have an advantage over one turning 1250 RPM when pulling MPH classes, if the 3000 rpm tractor has 221 cu in 6 cyl pulling 2nd gear and the 1250 rpm tractor has an 800 cu in 2 cyl pulling 3rd/4th? Both will be running 6+ mph.

Food for thought. When a farmer needed more power, production or speed, he bought a bigger tractor.

Remember there will always be somebody trying to push the envelope just a little further. YOU just have to be that somebody! I think we should just run what we bring, remembering we must be safe about running it.

My point is that with a max RPM for different cylinders vs a percentage or set rpm over factory, you are not showing favoritism towards one brand or model of tractor when the club allows you to run a later series rpm or run the belt pulley rpm for the drawbar (which I benefit from on my Massey).

I agree with your statement about smaller cid engines at higher rpms vs larger cid engines. However, it would give the smaller cid engines a chance to compete in the open classes, plus it levels the playing field for the large cid guys that may have an rpm spread between 1500 & 2100 rpms (as an example).

Food for thought...

What is your opinion of speed limits? What classes and speed rule do you pull?

We pull where and when we can pull, we're not prejudice to speed limits or not. So to answer your question, this past year we pulled in pulls with 3.5, 4.0 and 6.0 mph speed rules. And we went to several of the 'OPEN-run what you brung, stock appearing pulls'. All of them are fun some more than others. You've got to remember Speed limits make the crankshaft in the 'BRAIN' spin a little harder.....
