What is the starting stock factory height of a cylinder head for a 450 farmall? I bought a different head casting #362174r1 and would like to know how much it has been surfaced, and how much more one can go before you get to thin.

Look at the two triangle shaped (with rounded corners) water holes near the outside edge. Notice that these holes get larger as they go up into the casting. If too much is planed off, these holes will become larger than the head gasket holes and will probably leak. You can get a custom gasket made to get around this problem. This might allow another .050 (guess) to be taken off. A good machine/rebuild shop could probably tell you for sure. Good Luck.
