We just bought a 96 kenworth for hauling our own corn and I was wondering if anyone hooks their goosneck trailor to a semi. If so, is there a covertion ball or something you can buy to hook it to the semi? The big Dodge does fine pulling 18,000 lbs but stopping is a different story-it would be nice to have something bigger in front of it. Hope someone has some ideas, Thanks

I started out custom hauling with a gooseneck. Later added a road tractor in place of the 1-ton. Converted my gooseneck couplers to kingpin type. Didn't like it at all. Didn't allow trailer to pivot to the sides offroad and ended up causeing lots of stress cracks in my trailers. Converted trailers back to ball coupler and added retractable ball under fifth wheel on tractor. Just slide fifth wheel forward raise the ball and hook. Worked much better.

You will need to get a adapter to fit you semi's kingpin/5th wheel. As your semi probably has air brakes and you gooseneck has electric, you will also need to buy a conversion kit that goes in the cab. About $150. You will also need to wire your semi to match the trailer electric system, probably go with a 7 pin connector.

I pull mine 30' gooseneck with a 95 freightliner. With 435 hp, it handles better than any pickup would. Good luck.

I have a semi for sale that is set up and ready to roll. It is 97 freightliner with only 460,000 miles. It has a 400 hp cummins and a super ten eaton fuller transmission. I am graduate student who needs money and will sacrifice the truck. I am currently asking 14,000.

A guy in our club has a late 70's Kenworth that he fabricated a gooseneck ball system between the frame rails just aft of the plate. Seems to work quite nicely

Hilltop Pulling in Worthington, PA. Just outside of Kittaning on 422. Are you from the area? We are having a club meeting in January if you are interested in attending

If you have an adjustable hitch on your trailer all you have to do is slide out the gooseneck coupler and get a fifth wheel connector

Our hitch is adjustable. Where would I look to buy one of the fifth wheel connectors? Thanks for the responses-

I don't think you mentioned where you are located but if there is a dealer in your area that sells trailers they should be able to get what you need
