How well does anyone think a straight 6 out of a 54' Chevy truck would work in an M farmall. It has a bore of 3'9/16, and a stroke of 3'15/16. It has 235.5 cubic inches. I dont know RPMs but I know they are low. Ive heard that newer V-8s spin to fast with the stock transmission. Right now I have everything on the M except a stock engine. Thanks,

Why not use the 560 rails, adapter plate, and fly wheel. I hear the steering will bolt in. Use the 301 motor. I have been told it all bolts up. Hope this helps.

A few years back I watched a Farmall M throw fire out the stack in 2nd gear at the Wayne County Fair in the 6000# class! Hmmmm, was raised on Farmalls and checked it out it the pits. They had fit a 4 cylinder turbo diesel from a JOHN DEERE utility tractor in the M! One notch in the frame and a different radiator setup, looked factory with IH Red paint on the JD engine. Was wondering how that setup would work on the green chopper!

I think the 6 will be about 8 or 10 inches longer than a V8. If a V8 is put in a H, the frame has to be lengthened about 4 or 6 inches. You might check the wheel base/frame rail of the H/M to see how it will fit. Personally, if I was seriously looking at a 6, I would concider the GM 292 cid or the Ford 300 cid, tons of torque and probably the same block lenght. Good luck and keep us posted, this sounds very interesting.

Myself I would use a c-301 6 cyl. engine out of a 806 or a combine. Cheap to buy and will be easy to bolt up. just my nickles worth... just Bob
