Cubes vs. rpms

I am a MM collector and puller. I have been looking at some of the larger pulling clubs South of me (I am in mid-Michigan) and noticed the rules tend to favor small high rpm engines in the hotter classes. MMs are too big much of the time as far as some rules are concerned. A MM engine will pull just as well (if not much much better) as any other brand at half the rpms. Is there a bias here with cubic inches limits in some classes or is it just my imagination?

Down here in Tn I haven't seen a regulation on cubic inches in the pulls I go to. I think it might be more of a matter of location than engine size. There are alot more farmalls, deeres, and Olivers around here than there ever were MM's. I can tell you that the MM's that are around here usually do really good.Deeres are another on that use cubic inches inctead of RPM. They will get down and grunt forever!

Yeah, you're right. The classes I was refering to were like ones with 1960's tractors. MM GVI, later 6 cyl. Farmalls, JD 4020, 4010, Oliver 880s and newer, and that type in hotter classes. I went to the DeKalb Super Pull and enjoyed it, but talked to some big 6 cyl. MM guys running lower RPMs that were not allowed to pull. I think they went in to a turbo class without a turbo, so they could get a chance to pull. Still won if my memory serves me correctly. The good old JD 2 cylinders got some good cubes to keep on luggin'. Always enjoyable to hear that sound.
