I plan on having some head work done to my Farmall M. One thing I am going to do is have it milled. Can I use a regular head gasket after that is done? I also would like to have a 3 angle valve cut and have it port and polished. Do you think I will have to have and Carb work done after all this has taken place.
Forgive me of my stupidity, but I am new to the high performance end of engine rebuilding. Any information or comments will be appreciated. Thank you!!!

As with everything else, a 3-angle valve job is good, BUT ....go the NEXT step, and have the valves re-shaped and contoured to the seat-contact area...Port-blending is a plus, but the valve re-shape will give you the equivilant of increased valve lift, and lighten the valve as well.. This will not be as cheap as a standard 3- angle job, but IF you want to compete, Ya gotta let it Breath... Right now, many racers may have some spare time, and be willing to do the work....

Yes you can use a stock gasket. You need to have the head put on a flow bench then you will be able to determine the size carb. you need. Or you can do like most and just through it together and what ever you end up with is what you got. It's the difference in doing it right or just doing it. Go ahead and do it right and figure your CCs and do a little work with some computer solftware so you will know what you have when you are done.
