Steven has a good point. I was raised Farmall Red and pull AC, Oliver and (of course) IH. There are no antique (or other) Fords pulling locally in our area. Would really like to see some gray/blue tractors come out and play, they seem a popular machine but for some reason don't take trailer rides to the track. Would like to run against some Masseys, too! My brother-in-law does excellent in the 5000# stock class with his 165D. He points it down the center of the track and stomps on the diff-lock! I don't have a diff-lock so I have to drive my way down the track!

They keep makin the other/REAL green tractors (John Deere) because they can, and they can make a profit doing it! Which cannot be said about the Olivers.

I would have to agree. The old Olivers were a real nice tractor in their day. If they would have been managed better, in my own opinion, John Deere would have had a hard time keeping up with International Harvester, Ford, and Oliver.

I will say this- John Deere had to have very good buisness men working for them. Any one that can sell a vibrating, hard staring, behind the times tractor like a John Deere should be congragulated. Fact is, when Oliver was around, they had the better tractor just poor managment and bad buisness decitions.

Yep, have to agree.

If anyone cares to research all the old tractor companies, it was usually poor management choices rather than poor equipment that caused them to go under. Some companies had great equipment but poor management caused bankruptcy or whatever else. Then on the other hand some companies had really poor equipment, but slick managers and salespeople...

He's right about John Deere's, but if ya'll really want a great pulling tractor between 4200 and 5200 take a 900 Ford and put 14.9-38 Firestones on it and you will have the tractor to beat.
