I am new to John Deere and I really don't know much about them. I was wondering what kind of power you can get out of a 730 gas. Is their a power block for a 730 or a power block that will work in a 730? What is the max bore you can have in a 730? Where would be a good place to get a few high performance parts for a 730? Any other tips or info would be appreciated. Thanks

John, I would have to agree with the post below, it costs big money to go the stroker route and you will still end up on the short end of the power curve compared to other makes. I will offer this glimmer of hope though, you should be able to get about 70hp on pump gas from the cubic inches you have. I would get a cam ground for high tourque and stock RPM, $120.00. Port the head and intake manifold, free, I can help if you need some. Put a large dry air filter on it,$40.00 plus filter. The trick is to keep compression around 130 psi(pump gas compatible) and reduce all your restriction on the intake and the exhaust sides of the engine. I have a 70 gas with these mods and have 67 hp. I have not messed with the carb, electronic ignition or change rocker arm geometry yet. I have enclosed my e-mail address if you need it.

John, unless you have the time and money to really go whole-hog with your tractor, you might be better off keeping it relatively stock for the time being. I don't know what all performance parts are avaialble for the 730 gas, but whatever is available is going to be high dollar. It costs much dinero to build a Deere to run with the big dogs in Div IV and V, and you'll never be able to pull as fast as those Farmall, Minnies and Olivers. You're biggest advantage will be low-end torque and weight. Your 730 should have a creeper first gear (1.5 mph) that will allow even a bone stock engine to easily spin the tires in low gear. If I were you, I would start with a good tune-up and go from there. Check compression, adjust valves, rebuild the carb, check timing and the like to make sure you're getting all you can out of it. After that, things like recurved distributors, electronic ignition and other relatively cheap and easy mods will help you out some. I would think that with the above things and maybe some carb work and higher-compression pistons, you could probably get 70 horsepower out of that 730 pretty easily - maybe more. You're tractor has enough low-end grunt to enable you to weight it up heavy and pull in the heavy classes against tractors with much more horsepower. Good tires, proper tire pressure, proper weight placement, good track reading and driving will win you more pulls than all-out horsepower. I'm not saying that you can't go all out - anything is possible with enough money, and the sky is the limit when it comes to fancy parts and machine work. But I think you'll have a much more enjoyable time pulling with a relatively stock tractor that can win a lot of pulls without a bunch of time and money invested. At least I would, lol.
