TRAILER RAMPS

I need some info for my trailer. I have an 18’ flat bed trailer to haul tractors with. This trailer does not have a dovetail. Now I have 7’ slide out ramps that are a pain to say the least. I want to make and install fold up ramps, but am not sure how long to make them. Is there a set angle that I could go by? My trailer bed is about 30” off the ground. If I could get an angle to go by I can figure the length of the ramp to build. Thanks for any and all input.

Good advice from the other posts. Why don't you use the 7' long ramps that you have now? I'd use some pipe and plate and modify the rear of the trailer to mount the ramps. (I did). I also added straps of round stock pinned to the ramps and trailer to hold the ramps vertical during transport. This helps to know where the rear of the trailer is when backing up. (don't know if you have a welder, though).

It is kind of hard to visulize what angle you may need for your trailer. What I have done is to have trailer hooked to what I am going to pull it with, then park on street or level surface. Then use a 2 X 4 to kind of give me an idea of how long ramps would need to be. I have also added trailer screw down jacks on each side to keep from lifting the pick-up back end up when loading.--deadeye

Amen to the trailor jacks, I had a nice little ride with truck, tractor, and trailer down a hill. An I wast setting on the tractor. As for the length I cannot see how you can go shorter that 7 feet with a 30 inch height. Another thing to take into consideration is loading after your wheels are wet, which makes short angles even worse. Russ
