Here in Eastern North Carolina we have a friend and fellow puller that has been diagonosed with throat cancer. That friend is 53 year old Alton Cox of Goldsboro, North Carolina. Alton has been an icon in tractor pulling in this area since the early seventies. He has pulled with the NTPA back in the seventies and eighties and pulled with the local antique clubs for several years during the nineties and 2001 and 2002. Last year he began pulling in the Super Farm class again with the NTPA. He is currently undergoing eight weeks of Chemotherapy AND radiation therapy. I, along with a lot of his other friends and fellow pullers, are sponsoring a benefit tractor pull in Goldsboro, North Carolina on March 22 begining at 12:00 noon. We wiil be using two sleds which are being furnished by CATPA and DATPA. All the proceeds from the hook fees, gate receipts, concession, and ad sales will be given to Alton and his family. We will have fresh "Carolina Style Barbecue" with all the trimings served that day. We will have a Kiddie Pull for the kids. As a special attraction we have invited the NTPA Super Farm pullers to come and put on an exhibition pull in honor of Alton. We will have Antique Super Stock, Antique Turbo Tractors, Antique Modified, Hot Farm, Antique Stock, and Street 4WD Pickups. We will go by CATPA rules (www.catpa.net) for everything except the modified and 2500 and 2700 pound classes. For these classes we will use DATPA rules. WE NEED YOUR HELP!! We need you to come and pull with us and support Alton. If you have any questions, you may call me Gary Britt @ 919-778-7210 (days), 734-4758 (nights), email fbo@esn.net or Ed Stevens @ 919-689-9731 stevefarms@goldsboro.net

Thanx Wildman, we are praying for good weather and we hope pullers will come and support this cause. I hope we have pullers from South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, as well as North Carolina present. In the past some guys from Florida have come with their turbo tractors and pulled with us. We hope they along with other pullers, from anywhere, will come. I hope everyone will keep Alton in their prayers, as he is facing the toughest "pull" of his life. If anyone from out of state is coming, please let us know. If we can be of help with hotel rooms or anything else, just let us know>

Very Sorry to hear about Mr Cox, and wish him and his family well.

Please post some general directions if you will. Maybe a few of us Union County pullers can come.

The pull will be at the Wayne County Fairgrounds. The Fairgrounds is on Hwy 117 South app 5 miles south of Goldsboro. I will be adding other posts with updates between now and the pull date. Anyone who can come is certainly welcome and appreciated. Thanx Gary
