In the JD 4020 turbo discussion below one of the posts by JDJim talks about differnt numbers of heads(31 vs. 33 vs. 37). I am new to pulling, but have been around JDs for a long time and have no idea what he is talking about. Whats the difference? Which one is best for which application? could someone explain it to me? Thanks!

Injection pumps both rotary and inline, starters, turbo's and alternator are made by outside vendors for each particular application. Rather than "re-invent the wheel" they mix and match parts for the application. Which lucky for us allows simple, cheap easy mixing and matching of higher capacity components.
