Does spinning tires in reverse gear produce a "road worn" effect, or just the opposite and remove rubber from the front of the lug?

Doug if you really want a good looking tire runn your tires on opposite sides ancor your tractor down and weight it up to about 5000# and then spin them this puts a nice edge on the front of the bar while giving you the road wear look spinning them backwards is fine but I have found that it rolls a lot of rubber over the front edge and the front of the bar is not as sharp then!

Dear Mr Thumper,

I can't believe you'd ever think I'd stoop to anything so low... Got accused a few times but never was convicted. The tires in question are probably now painted white with flowers growing in them in front of a mobile home somewhere in well...

BTW when are you and the WILDMAN going to sign in on the OTTPA yahoo group? It could use somebody with your flair and charisma.

Take it easy!

Hey WILDMAN,

Just click the banner at the top of OTTPA's website and then click where it says sign up. Pick a name and a password and that's about it. There's a nice picture of Jay on there already.

We have been doing it for years. Let enough air out of the tires to have the full length of the bars touching the ground. Chain the front of your pulling tractor to the back of another tractor. Find a nice stretch of cement road(low traffic:-)). Put the pulling tractor in reverse, and begin pulling it forward with the other tractor slowly. Ease the clutch out on the pulling tractor and keep both rear tires spinning the same speed with the brakes. Stop every so often to check the process. It will remove rubber from the back of the lugs to the front and give you a very nice profile for pulling. This works even better if you have a Hot Knife or other way to square the front edge of the lug.

The first time we did this, several years ago, a drag racing buddy up the road spent an hour trying to duplicate the "burn outs" he saw on our stretch of road.

Have fun.
