I pull with a 47 JD-A. I have the flat back on it with the PTO in, 15.5x38's on pressed wheels, removed the roll-o-matic front end and went with the smaller and lighter implement rims and tires on the front, and taken the oil bath system out, and have the old style seat and it weighs in at 4500 lbs. I am running with a magneto so after I start the tractor I can pull the battery, and I can remove the generator also and be at 4400#, this with wheelie bars and weight brackets and myself (200#)on it. Just going with a smaller size set of implement rims and tires on the front will lighten you up by 50 lbs. Hope this helps.

I took the power trol off, made a plate useing the gaset as a template then gutted the "pump" on the pto. With 15.5's on pressed steel my 51' weighs around 5000.

If I remember correctly (it's been a few years) I lost 225# by taking off the rockshaft housing and using cast roundback on an early styled A. I guess you could use an early platform and seat, but that setup weighs about 50#, but you could use an aluminum channel instead of steel and get rid of the spring. If you only pull with it drain out tranny lube down to about 3 gallons. Mike

I bought my flat back for $225 last spring, and there were more where that one came from. That was the cheapest price I could find after shopping around, they go for WAY more than that at most every other places.

I would like to know where you are located and if the flat back cover is the JD 4109. Would like to try to work something out.

Thanks

The cover I have is A570R. It is in good sape and if someone would like it I'll let it go for $100. I live in Wisconsen and i'll even pay for the shipping just to get it out of the shop. This cover is off a 38A and should fit some of the newer ones also.
