I have a 1948 JD B. I am going to have the head off and I am putting new guides and valves in it. Is there anything I can have the machine shop do while I have the head off to make more power. Is there a better manifold that I can put on it to get more power. I plan on pulling this tractor also.. Thanks alot guys

I would have your valve grinder put a three angle seat grind on the head for you then ask him to back cut the valves with a 30 degree cut to promote flow. Take at least .125 if not more if you have stock pistons, off the head. Port match the manifold to the head and have fun.

Have the machine shop shave the head down .125 to boost compression and polish the ports. Also, polishing the intake manifold will make more power. I'm going to do this to my B.

Also helps to remove any baffles that are in the exhaust part of the manifold, so exhaust flow is not restricted.
