My 88 has 56 horsepower. I know I could compete in the 4500-5500 class, but could I make it through the 5501-6500? Had an M before we bored it that had 50 horse and it would pull in the top 15 in heavy weight. Any advice is appreciated.

Our friend has a stock 88. On a hard packed red clay track he almost runs out of power in the 7500 on our hard sandy track he has no problem. Does your 88 have the low transmission or the high transmission? His has the high. Are you allowed to turn the rpm's up?

I have a stock 88 as far as I know with the factory hitch set on 18 inchs tht pulls real good up through 6000 I know ( Run out of weights after that) Last time I pulled it was in 2nd gear on a wet almost muddy track and never bogged it.

In first you should be able to go to 7500 easy.

I pull mine up to 7500. That is with a long hitch, longish chain on the sled, 18" high drawbar and almost new tires. Tracks vary from sandy to heavy clay. I haven't stalled it out yet in first gear but with a short chain on the sled it would be a definite possibility. Should have better tires and hope to find five-ten horsepower by summer.

Regards,
A.P.

My 88 has Goodyear ultra torque tires on it. I would say they are 20% at most. The weird thing is is that another 88 puller has the same amount of tread and same 15 inchers, and the M's have somewhat of a hard time keeping up with him. I have one set of Oliver wheel weights on the inside and 6 Massey Ferguson suitcase weights on the forward part of my drawbar, and it works real good around the farm. Don't really understand what you mean by fast and slow transmissions, but first gear is a crawl. We are allowed to put RPM's over 10%. I'm setting at 1800, which is 50 RPM's over. I was also wondering, how hot of a plug can I run in it, D-21?

You probably haven't noticed, not many people do. On some 88's the hump on the transmission cover will be higher than others. If it has the higher hump on the transmission cover it has the larger bull gears. If it has the lower one than of course it will have the smaller, gears which make it go faster. This is only on 88's not 77's.
We are running D 23's. We have an electronic ignition. We are running it at about 4000 RPM's.

The plate that is right below your feet stands up pretty far. Must have a slower tranny.
