I have a 1949 JD B that I am having the block bored, head redone, and the crank needs to be ground. The machine shop I am taking it to is a very reputable shop and does good work. He said it would be no problem to do. What i am thinking of doing is welding the crank up and doing a 3/8" offset grind. Is this possible with no problems and if their a better set up. Let me know thanks alot. By the way I pull this tractor

Farmer, A 3/8" offset will get you 3/4" stroke. 5.5 + .75 = 6.25 stroke. Not all that big this day in age. I guess the things I would say to give some thought to is this. First it will not cost much more if any to go bigger as the processes will be the same. Second to go bigger it will get more involved in making room for it to rotate inside the case. Don't know what type of class you are wanting to set it up for but if you are planning on pulling in 4 mph type classes you are not near serious enough with a 6.25 stroke in a "B'. If you are still going to pull it in granny gear then it will probably be fine. Sorry if this rains on your parade. If you want, Email me and I can be of more help if you are interested. I pull with a couple of "B's".

My only question is why stop at 3/8"? I do not think you will notice any real difference in just going that much. If you are going to the trouble, stretch that crank out to 7.5" Now you will notice a difference.
