I'm looking for info from people who have built a 5.9 Cummins for pulling. I'm looking to see how big are these motors being built. I know you can get 300-400 hp out of the little 360 but just wonder if they are building bigger or how big they are going.

Go to the Turbo Diesel Register web site. They deal only with cummins stuff.

Aaaa yeah the Walmart talker guy needs to get Diesel Power Mag, the heads, bolts, valves are all good for 1200 hp stock, its easy to get 1000 from the little cubes, with more fuel + air and like said, tons of parts, cheap too!

This intrests me. I know Math who made this post And im sure we will hash this subject over on the phone soon. I know what we can get out of a DT468 with a four inch turbo, P-pump, and a big bore so 1000 to 1200 hp from a stock long block 5.9 sounds pretty wild to me. Has any one ever done this or are they going by what they read in a magizine? How many rpm are we talking here, and does any one have an Idea what this will cost? Im sure math will want to have an idea what the cost will be. And so will I! Thanks.

Some of the performance truck builders do it regularly. Contact beans diesel performance down in Tennessee. They have built a lot of tough running 5.9s for pullers and drag racers.

M.Genrich you must not be familiar with 5.9s or the performance world. A set of head studs, and maybe valve springs/pushrods are the only engine mods needed to hit 1000 hp. That, with big injectors and big turbo and 1000 hp is done all the time on those motors.

If you 're going to overhaul it you should try to find a 6.7 crank. You 're right I don't care what engine you are building there is no replacment for displacement.

The question is how how big do you want to go? Do you want a 1000hp, 1500hp, 2000hp, 2500hp? My '95 12v below put out a little over 500hp and was my daily driver and trailer puller. The 12v are very easy to build power with and there are tons of parts out there.

I know those guys are doing that but I have to overhaul the motor and there is no replacement for displacement.

You do not need any more displacement. You need to learn about pumps, turbos, injectors, compression ratios, etc before worrying about more displacement in a 5.9 Cummins.

Need to get a Diesel 4X4 magazine at Walmart. My son showed me a article where you could get 1000 hp without any internal modifications. Just turbo's (I think 2 at least maybe 3) lines and pump. Vic
