Looking at putting 9 bolt pressed wheels on my G. I have a set of deere hubs that have the keyway in them. Wondering about grinding a key slot into the axle and then putting the hub on? Has anyone done this? Thanks

Take the hubs out of cast wheels on "G" and make adapter ring is the best go.I have seen several sets for sale.

Never thought about making the adapter plate, what would you do on the 820's-30's??? There is no hub on those. We have one we are going to start pulling, but would like to get it lighter than 10'000 pounds. Thanks

You can purchase a set of hubs that are being made for the R, 80, 820, and 830.. (I have also seen them on a G) They are taking the cast centers and turning them down and tapping them for the the 9 bolt wheels.. the prices we got were $550 + shipping for a set. On the G's, if you have the small center hubs you can make the adpater plates, if you have the big one piece centers, you could have those cut and turned down.. The only other thing you can do is to grind a slot into the axle and use a tapper or U-bolt type hub. On the big wheatland tractors, if you want to go back to the stock hubs no one will ever know you cut one of the splines out. JDGnut

(if it is always going to be a pulling tractor make a set of weld on hubs.)

I don't have much Deere knowledge, but I'm assuming your axles don't have keyway slots. You might not want to alter the axles because 1: it takes away from the authenticity of the tractor and 2: it might heat the axle and cause cracks which in turn might cause weak spots in the axle. If you're putting alot of horsepower to the ground, you need your axles to be as strong as they can be.
