I'm gonna buy the Semi! The farmer who owns it bought it used in 1980 with 90,000 miles on it.
He mainly used in the Fall to haul corn & soybeans. The only trouble he has had is with the brakes. Three years ago he put $1500 into the braking system. He figured it was because it sits idle for several months during the year.
He said everything on it is right up to snuff.
His farm machinery looks very well cared for.
Anyway, I got in the drivers seat and he got in
the passenger seat and we went for a ride. Wow.
Kinda hard to take off smooth! Sure seems like more than 290 horses! That Cummins is 855 cubic
inches! I sure do like the view from UP there!
Flat out in 9th gear at 2100 rpms the semi does 72 mph. It was a fun ride! I can get it registered as a farm use vehicle too. Half the fun IS going to be getting there. Your Powerstrokes & baby Cummins might pass me on the flats, but in the hills you're gonna be lookin at my rear end!

Farm plates will get you 150 miles or less from home, here in Ohio. Insurance will be another story. A friend of mine delivers sawdust fer a living, used to own a 1990 GMC cab-over but passed it off and went to a F-600 straight truck with a Cummins and 6-speed. Says it's much less expensive to run/maintain. Good Luck with yer "new" toy!

You are the only one you have to please. Why make us envious ????? Don't forget to keep a log book for the Blue Coats to read and pull in at every scales to have permits and licences checked.

I don't have to keep a log book or stop at the scales with our semi as long as it's used for hobby. no special licenses either. check the laws in your state.

I was referring to going across state lines to other pulls were fuel taxes become an item ----possibly.

Going across the state line will definitely change things...also if you go beyond a certain amount of miles from home (usually like 100)...

I wouldn't bet on any powerchokes or other cummins to pass you as you have better power to weight ratio, alot more torque and you can get over 500 hp or more from that engine with very little work, plus jakes to help stop. A friend has a 350 cummins putting out over 800hp with 1 turbo, everday driver. Cummins are also alot cheaper to rebuild or work on than ANY pickup engine. Congrats!

You can turn the RPM's up to about 2400 too, that'll give you a higher top speed in all the gears and plus not limit you to the 72 mph when you get on the interstate or wide open road.

I have an International with an L10 Cummins in it, and it governs out at around 1600 RPM at 70 mph. How do you go about turning the RPMs up on it? Thanks
