One of my friends (who happens to pull J.D.) said
between friendly digs that "Johnny" pulls so well
because of the flywheel and I should mount one on
mine. He also said I'd have to paint the tractor
green. I'll probably not take him up on the 2nd
suggestion, but had anyone tried this with the 124
cu in? where? belt pulley or pto? weight? barking
up the wrong tree? Thanks in advance - ALAN

A heavier flywheel may help or it may harm. If a tractor maintains a high rpm and falls off rapidly in the last few feet, then a heavier flywheel will help. If a tractor just slowly looses rpm over the last half of the track, than a heavier flywheel will probably harm. The reason is that the stored energy of the flywheel is released porportionatly to rpm lose. Fast rpm lose = fast energy release. Slow rpm lose = slow energy release. Therefore, once the tractor is below its torque curve, it's trying to pull itself, the sled AND an extra large flywheel. Good luck.

Thanks! That's exactly the info I needed. She
wears down slowly and usually I have to dump the
clutch to prevent a stall just as the wheels start
to break a little. I thought this was about right
but my buddy can really razz a guy. I'm out to
have fun and that's what I'm having... sounds like
a good can of worms not to open. Thanks - ALAN

Borrow his flywheel. Attach it to your pto with duct tape. Disconnect two of your plug wires. Poor man's John Deere...

Laughed so loud my wife came in to find out what
was funny. She's not really into tractors much
and the following required explaination took much
effort. She finally smiled for my benifit.

At least as good of an idea as painting mine
green... I'll pass it on to my friend... thanks
for responding - ALAN
