I am thinking about pulling my Oliver at the county fair this year, or possibly a farmall M if I get one by then. What do you do to prepare for such an event? New gas? tuneup? funny fuel? gov. adjustments? Any idea what classes each would pull in? I can put stamped rims on the oliver but I'll have to put a tire on one. The M will have regular cast wheels if I pull one. Thanks in advance,
mike

Get ya a book on he tractor and adjust the linkage and and stuff as best as you can. Realise that some folks idea of farm stock is alot different than others. Tune it up, put the kit in the carb, make sure whichever air filter you use it is clean and not stopped up anywhere and have a blast! Course if your fair has money for prizes you can be assured that somewhere in that farm stock stufff there will be ones with bigger pistons ,shaved or LP heads, different carbs, but who knows, I saw a M farmall win one day and it was not even running good! Also depending on how far you want to go with the tractor you will want to change your hitch completely from the stock version to something that is higher and closer to the axle.

Also be sure to let us know how you do! I have an 88 that I pull most of the time but also have a show stock 77 that gets hooked occasionally. Actually think I have more fun with the 77 than the 88 at times.

Sliver, you might first want to clarify your Oilallover is a 70. Second, check at your fair for weight classes. They may not have a class light enough for it. If they do, and you are running cast rears, you will most likely be in 4500.

Don't worry about funny fuel. You don't have enough compression to worry about it.. Make sure it runs smooth, and that the governor is functioning properly. Your 70 probably needs a tune-up anyway. Make sure your valves are adjusted properly. Get your hitch as high and close as is allowed. Make sure your tires have even pressure.

And realize that the odds of you winning your first hook are slim. Do it for fun.

Our payout at the fair is only 30$ for 1st, 20$ for second, and 10$ for third... I forgot to mention, there is a 4500 lb class...might even be one less cuz my friend pulls his JD B. I guess I am in trouble if I try to pull it, though, it needs a tune up, carb kit, and the governor linkage has a bunch of play in it....

Sliver, don't worry about it. Somebody's got to come in last. I can't be everywhere to do it...

Tell me a bit more about this "slo lean" system.. Is it patented? Where can I buy the instructional tape? How much work is involved??
