How long does the tractor sit without being used? A lead-acid battery will slowly self-discharge when sitting for several months. If it goes dead sooner, try removing the ground cable as soon as the tractor is not being used. If the battery now stays up, look for a draw. Dirty contacts in the ignition or light switch may let some current trickle through. The voltage regulator may be guilty. Has the tractor been converted to an alternator? It may be wired wrong and the alternator field is always hot or there's an internal problem in the alternator. Disconnect all the alternator wires and see if the battery stays up. Moisture on top of the battery will let current trickle between the posts. Even a new battery can be defective and rapidly run down.

Disconect one of the battary cables and use a volt meter to see how much is being drained them work thru the wiring to see what is causing it. Might be a bad battary as they are not all perfect.
