I have a 70 gas JD,LP pistons, otherwise stock tractor. Going to pull for fun at the local pulls. Dynoes at 50 HP. Has anyone had experience with 18.4 38s on a stock 70 gas? I will pull in 6500 class but I don't know if it will pull these tires. The tracks are mostly lightly watered black dirt. Thanks

Thanks for all the replies. We'll stick with the 15.5's and have fun.

Have a friend that has a 70gas with lp pistons in it that is running 50hp, like yours. It"s on 15.5 F&R"s,(good tires) and he has his hands full on a good track at 6500lbs. When he goes up to 7000lbs he doesn"t stand a chance, powers out very quickly. luckydog

Very true,I pulled weighing 7000 and powered out at 202 ft and went right back and pulled 203ft,and just as the front wheels started up it started to spin out and died.15.5 might be your best bet and stay in the 6500 unless you want to go heavier, but you probably won't be happy with the results on a hard biting track.Good luck to you anyway.

Our stock 70G rowcrop with Firestone Traction Field & Road 23 Degree 15.5x38's will lug down but just spin out in the 6500lb class on sticky clay. You will have trouble keeping the front end down unless your hitch is way ahead. 18.4x38's are 12% faster than 15.5x38's with the already speedy 2-1/2 MPH 1st gear. Surface area is huge by comparason with 675 sq in. on contact area vs 491 sq in. when dug in 3" deep. The only way to keep from stalling in front of the crowd is to hollow out the muffler, do the dry air filter conversion & tune the timing/ mixture on the dyno for max snort when lugged down.
