I pull a John Deere 60 out here in Oregon. It's a stock tractor and I only use 1st gear. I've found that 6000lbs. was a little light for it, so I pull it at 7000lbs., and sometimes 8000lbs. At 8000 it is a little tough to beat tractors like Case 830's, but it is very competitive at 7000. I don't know what your weight classes are like, but if you get the weighting and hitch right, it really amazes the crowd when you chug down the track at 1.5 miles an hour. Remember to have fun with tractor pulling, though, because that is what it is meant for and you'll enjoy it more. A little competition is good, but I've seen it get out of hand. Good luck.

A 60 john deere will make a good pulling tractor, if you keep it stock. Don't listen to others and put a gold mine in it, then it's not stock antique tractor pulling!! Boring a motor is for candy a$$ men who are afraid of losing to stock tractors. Pull it the way it is!!!!!

I've seen you at a tractor pull before. You're the guy who used 550 pounds of welding rod on your flywheel and doubled the horsepower of your twopop tractor. Too bad you still finished last.

Paint that John Deere whatever color you like.

That won't change the fact that it's a piece of junk.
