Pulling a WD45 Allis in 3500 to 4500 lb. class, which is the best tire,a 4 ply or a 6 ply

Rod, contrary to some opinions you do not want your tire to "squat". A good, flat cut on the tires plus proper air pressure for your weight class will do more to increase your pulling distances. You want the tread to flatten somewhat but not "squat". You can have too much air in a tire but you also can have too little. If your tires buckle in the sidewalls or squat down you are losing drawbar height and your distances will suffer accordingly. A lower air pressure allows some more surface on the ground but the contact pressure will be so little that your tread will flex and not hook up like you think it will. There should be no difference in the performance of a 4- or 6-ply tire with the exception of weight savings on the 4-ply. I machine cut tires and super low air pressure is a common misconception. I am pulling a wd with 4-ply 13.6 38" tires in 3350-4850# classes. They do very well 6 ply would add wieght and not squat very well

I would think the 4 ply would give you more "squat" with slightly more air pressure. I have a buddy with an Oliver and they work well for him.

Some people claim that all other factors the equal,a heavier ply tire limits the tread bars bending back and keeps them digging in instead.
