I pull a Farmall Super M. I took my old spring out and went to the local hardware and bought a sring that is stiffer (stronger) than the original but the same length. This still allows for full range of throttle. My Super M runs about 2100 rpms at full throttle now. I tried a shorter spring but then the tractor would not idle down. The spring cost me $2.00.

Another trick is to make a straight rod to replace the spring. It looks like a U and fits in the holes where the spring clips in. Guys also go the cheap way and grab some wire and wire it tight. Neither of these ideas allow it to idle down, it will run at half throttle or higher all the time.

Hope I helped.
