Can engine parts (crank, rods, pistons, block and head) from a late model (1947 1/2) JD A be put into an early model (pre '47). I have two parts tractors which I would like to combine to build a pulling tractor. From what I understand the late model A's have a longer stroke and quite a bit higher horsepower rating. I prefer to use the early model tractor but need engine parts from the later model. Will the parts interchange?
Thanks for any info or advice you can give.

The block from a pressed steel frame will not bolt right into the early styled. Only two of the six bolt holes are the same (top and bottom center holes). Everything else should work. The later head has less combustion chamber so it will raise the compression, and will bolt to an early styled block. The crankshafts are the same between the two, and the rods are the same. The pistons will be taller from the later tractor (assuming its a gas and not an all-fuel), but should work with a good stright bore that does not have a ridge at the top to crash the rings into.
